Which equipment requires Type Approval?
All radio-electrical equipment imported or manufactured in Niger for commercial use must obtain type approcal certificate. This includes:
- Terminals (e.g., routers, modems, phones, IoT devices).
- Radio equipment (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 5G, GPS devices).
Exemptions apply to:
- Broadcast-only receivers (e.g., FM/AM radios).
- Equipment for national defense and public security.
What is the validity period of the type approval certificate?
The certificate is valid for three (3) years from the date of issuance. Renewal requires proof of continued compliance.
What is the transition period for existing certificates?
Pre-existing certificates remain valid until their expiration date.
How can a type approval certificate be renewed?
The certificate may be renewed at the request of the applicant, provided that the equipment continues to meet all essential requirements. The renewal application must follow the same submission procedure as the initial application.
What are the penalties for non-compliance?
Fines of 6–12 million FCFA per non-compliant device.
Seizure/destruction of equipment.
Ban from the telecom sector for 1–5 years.
