Algeria Updates Type Approval Framework for Telecommunications Equipment

Algeria Updates Type Approval Framework for Telecommunications Equipment

Algeria has adopted a new regulatory framework for the type approval of telecommunications equipment through Décret exécutif n° 26-97, issued on 31 January 2026 and published in the Official Gazette on 15 February 2026.

The decree establishes updated conditions and procedures for the homologation of electronic communications equipment in Algeria.

Key changes introduced by the new regulation

Digitized application process

The application process has been fully digitized and will now be conducted through a dedicated online portal. Importers and local applicants can create an account to submit applications and monitor their progress. All required documentation must be uploaded directly to the platform.

Removal of hard-copy submissions

Physical copies of documentation are no longer required. Digital documents uploaded through the portal are sufficient for the application process.

Updated technical file requirements

The list of required technical documents has been revised. Documents that were previously difficult to obtain, such as the Certificate of Origin (COO) from the Chamber of Commerce and Certificate of Conformity (CoC), are no longer required. The COO has been replaced by a Declaration of Origin issued by the manufacturer.

Harmonized documentation requirements

Previously, ANF and ARPCE maintained separate documentation requirements. The new framework introduces a unified set of document requirements applicable to applications submitted to either authority.

Extended certificate validity

The validity period of the type approval certificate has been extended from 3 years to 5 years.

Multiple importers can use the same approval

Type approval certificates will no longer be issued in the name of a specific importer. Multiple importers will now be able to rely on the same approval for the same equipment model.

Updated labeling requirements

Labeling template have been slightly modified. When it is not possible to affix the label directly on the equipment (for example due to size constraints), the label may be placed on the product manual or on the packaging.
